Using Filters and Toggles in Einstein

Updated Dec 09, 2020

How do I use filters on Einstein dashboards?

Each dashboard has filters which allows you to narrow the results based on your desired criteria. You can filter by what you would normally use as criteria to define your program or portfolio in Foundation Connect. Filters are often tied to each other so that you can progressively drill deeper. Below is a screenshot of the filters on the "Grant Making Analysis" dashboard:

How do I use toggles on Einstein dashboards?

A toggle allows users to filter the results on a dashboard or a specific widget on a dashboard based on a dimension (i.e. a qualitative value like Region, Level 1 Program or Type of Support). Below is a screenshot of the toggles included on the “Grant Making Comparison” dashboard:

For example, clicking on the “Type of Support” toggle will change the “Grant Making Comparison” dashboard results from displaying the geographies of benefit coded to a specific set of grants under the "Region" toggle to showing the various types of support represented by the same grants:

What information is captured by the filters and toggles on dashboards?

Filter Description

Approval Date

The date the grant was approved.

Scheduled/Paid Date

The payment date for each payment on the grant based on the date when a grant payment is scheduled and/or was disbursed. This allows filtering on a period of "activity", and not just when the grant was approved.

Level 1 Lead Program

The Level 1 Program which is the lead on the proposal record.

Level 1 Program (Incl. Non-Lead)

The Level 1 Program that is contributing the grant, even if it is not the lead.

Level 2 Program

The Level 2 Program that is contributing to the grant.

Level 3 Program

The Level 3 Program that is contributing to the grant.

Grant Number A grant's unique identification number which can be found on the proposal record in Foundation Connect, typically starting with "OR" or "IN" followed by the year when the proposal record was created, a dash and 5 digits. (e.g. OR2019-11111)

How do I interpret the "Pipeline by Status" chart colors on the "Portfolio Management" dashboard?

The colors correspond to the amount of time spent by a specific set of proposals, grantee reports, or payments in each stage of the pipeline relative to OSF's historical median times:

  • Green: Shorter than the median amount of time in that status/stage of the pipeline.
  • Yellow: At or close to the median amount of time in each status/stage of the pipeline.
  • Red: Longer than the median amount of time spent in each status/stage of the pipeline.
